17. AIMP Jahresforum 2023

Leadership in challenging times

The 17th AIMP Annual Interim Management Forum was held April 28-29 this year at Schwarzenstein Castle and was an outstanding opportunity for attendees from the interim management industry to learn about current trends and developments within the industry.

The two-day event featured a wide range of informative presentations, plenary discussions, and networking events led by top-notch experts and executives, where attendees were able to discuss new challenges and opportunities in the industry.

The main theme of the forum was “Leadership for Challenging Times” and the more than 100 attendees also had the opportunity to learn about topics such as corporate sustainability, leading under challenging conditions and interim leadership.

Is a scare scenario necessary to move employees?

Mark von Hauenschild and Andreas Lau (HANSE Interim) moderated the workshop “Is a scare scenario necessary to move employees?”.

In an exciting workshop format, we defended three partial theses to the discussants and collected supporting as well as refuting arguments from the discussants.

Thesen Workshop "Ist ein Schreckenszenario nötig, um Mitarbeiter zu bewegen"

After a very ambivalent discussion, most workshop participants were of the opinion that a scare scenario, viewed in isolation, tends to frighten employees, cause them to freeze in shock and flee, instead of moving them. Only when management presents a horror scenario together with a possible solution, in the context of a vision that is worth striving for, can it be assumed that employees will move (faster).

AIMP academy for beginners and interested interim managers

A special highlight of the forum was the one-day workshop of the AIMP academy for almost twenty newcomers and curious interim managers, this year under the guidance of Andreas Lau. The high number of participants at the AIMP academy confirms the growing interest in the profession of interim managers.

The growing “offspring” of interim managers is important because companies are increasingly recognizing the value of this problem-solving tool in the toolbox of human resources services.

Especially when companies have great difficulties in filling management positions with executive search specialists on a permanent basis, foresighted successful entrepreneurs calculate the opportunity costs between leaving a valuable revenue-generating project undone or postponing it versus the comparatively manageable additional costs of immediately deploying an interim manager to start the project quickly without having to wait eternally for the new permanent manager.

Therefore interim managers are currently working at over 90% of their capacity. So career starters in interim management are welcome and urgently sought. And of course, they want to be introduced, trained and educated.

All in all, the AIMP Annual Forum for Interim Management at Burg Schwarzenstein was a great success and provided participants with valuable insights and knowledge about current developments in the industry.

We are already looking forward to next year and are excited to see which topics will be in focus then!

With best regards
Your HANSE Interim Management
